GM Recalls Suburban, Tahoes, Escalade and Yukon for Seatbelt Malfunction

Third-row seatbelts may potentially malfunction in certain larger GM vehicles, prompting General Motors to recall roughly 484,000 vehicles including the Suburban and the Cadillac Escalade.

GM is recalling these large SUVs from across the United States to fix the issue that could result in injuries or worse. The recall covers the automaker’s larger SUVs in the 2021 and 2022 model years.

Other models affected by the recall include the Tahoe and GMC Yukon brands.

According to U.S. safety regulators, the seat belts in these vehicles have rivets that secure the buckle to the mounting bracket on both sides of the third-row seats. The ones used in these SUVs appear to have been improperly formed during the manufacturing process. That is a concern because the seat belts may not restrain a passenger correctly if there is a collision.

So far, there are no known injuries from crashes due to faulty third-row seat belt issues.

Owners of these vehicles should take the SUV to the dealership to have it inspected to ensure the rivet heads and buckles are properly installed. GM is notifying owners beginning on Sept. 26.
