Tesla Recalls Cybertrucks Over Potential Wheel Failure
Owners of certain Tesla Cybertruck models are being urged to pay attention to a new safety recall involving a potentially dangerous wheel defect that could increase the risk of a crash.
Tesla has recalled 173 Cybertrucks from the 2024 through 2026 model years equipped with 18-inch steel wheels after discovering a possible issue involving wheel-stud failure.
According to recall documents, cracks can develop in the brake rotor stud holes, which may eventually cause the wheel studs to separate from the wheel hub. If that happens, drivers could experience reduced control of the vehicle or, in severe cases, a wheel could detach while driving.
Tesla advises drivers to be aware of warning signs that may indicate a potential failure, including unusual vibrations or abnormal noises emanating from the wheels.
To correct the issue, Tesla plans to replace the affected wheel hubs and rotors at no cost to vehicle owners, as required under federal safety regulations.
What Tesla Owners Should Know About Recalls
Vehicle recalls are issued when automakers discover safety-related defects or problems that fail to meet federal safety standards. In many cases, manufacturers contact owners by mail and instruct them to schedule free repairs at authorized dealerships or service centers.
However, not every recalled vehicle is repaired immediately. Millions of vehicles across the United States remain on the road with unresolved recall issues, sometimes exposing drivers and passengers to serious safety risks.
Cybertruck owners who believe their vehicle may be affected should check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through Tesla or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall database to confirm whether repairs are needed.
When Repeated Vehicle Problems May Trigger Lemon Law Rights
While a recall does not automatically qualify a vehicle as a “lemon,” repeated repair issues, extended time in the shop, or ongoing safety defects may give consumers legal rights under California’s Lemon Law.
Attorney James Johnson of Johnson Attorneys Group helps California consumers who are dealing with defective vehicles, including electric vehicles and newer models experiencing recurring mechanical or safety-related problems.
If a manufacturer cannot properly repair a substantial defect within a reasonable number of attempts, consumers may be entitled to a vehicle buyback, replacement, or financial compensation under California law.
