Roughly eight months after Tesla began selling its futuristic Cybertruck, there are now four recalls following two announced on Tuesday affecting 11,000 vehicles — that’s almost all of the trucks in circulation.
UPDATE: A fifth recall was issued in October 2024 for 27,000 Cybertrucks because the rearview camera image failed to activate after the driver shifted the truck into reverse. Tesla will issue a free software upgrade to address the problem and owners will be notified Nov. 25th.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that excessive electrical current may cause the truck’s front windshield wiper motor controller to fail and pose a safety/crash risk due to poor visibility. There are no known crashes or injuries from the wipers, but Tesla intends to replace the truck motor.
The second recall involves a trim piece on the bed of the Cybertruck that could become loose and fly off. The automaker said the adhesive used to install the trim was likely not done properly and Tesla will replace the trim. .
Past recalls for the Cybertruck addressed issues with the poor font on the key instrument panel and a faulty accelerator pedal.
The Cybertruck came on the market back on November 30, 2023.
