Fuel Pump Defects in Alfa Romeo Guilia and Stelvio Vehicles
Defects identified in the fuel pump of certain Alfa Romeo vehicles, sedans, and SUVs resulted in a recall by Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, for roughly 54,000 vehicles in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects certain 2017–2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia models and 2018–2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio models. According to NHTSA, the affected fuel pumps may contain components that are vulnerable to heat. This defect could lead to a reduced fuel supply, sudden loss of power, and an increased risk of a crash. A permanent fix is still being developed, and Stellantis plans to mail notification letters to vehicle owners by October 29, 2025.
This recall follows other recent Stellantis safety concerns, including a recall of about 92,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles for hybrid control processor issues that may cause a loss of drive power. NHTSA has also opened an investigation into nearly 287,000 Chrysler Pacifica minivans from the 2017–2018 model years over possible electric power steering failures.
What California Drivers Should Know
If you own a recalled Alfa Romeo vehicle and have experienced repeated problems with stalling, loss of power, or fuel system defects, you may have rights under California’s lemon law. Manufacturers are required to repair defects within a reasonable number of attempts for the original owner of a vehicle that is still under the factory warranty. If they cannot, you could be entitled to a refund or replacement vehicle.
