Ford Recalls Over 103,000 F-150 Trucks for Axle Bolt Defect

Certain 2023 to 2025 Ford Pickup Trucks Have Axle Bolt Defect

Ford Recalls Over 103,000 F-150 Trucks for Axle Bolt DefectIf you own a newer Ford F-150, it’s time to check whether your truck is part of a new safety recall.

On August 12, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Ford is recalling more than 103,000 F-150 pickup trucks from model years 2023 through 2025 due to a serious rear axle bolt defect.

According to NHTSA, the axle bolts in affected trucks may loosen or break, which can damage the axle hub splines, critical components that transfer power from the axle to the wheels. Damaged splines can cause the vehicle to roll away when parked (if the parking brake is not engaged) or lead to a sudden loss of drive power while in motion, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford says drivers might first notice a clicking sound if the axle bolt is loose, or a rattling noise if it breaks.

As part of the recall, Ford dealers will replace the rear axle shaft assemblies free of charge. NHTSA estimates that about 1% of the recalled trucks have the defect.

If your truck has been in the shop multiple times for axle or drivetrain issues — especially if repairs haven’t fixed the problem — you may have rights under California’s Lemon Law.
