Volvo recall 413K Cars and SUVs for Rearview Camera Defect

Volvo recall 413K Cars and SUVs for Rearview Camera DefectVolvo has announced a large-scale recall involving hundreds of thousands of vehicles after identifying a technology defect that may interfere with safe reversing. The issue centers on a software malfunction that can cause the rearview camera image to fail to appear, increasing the risk of an accident.

According to federal safety filings, the problem affects vehicles equipped with Google-based infotainment systems. When the defect occurs, drivers may receive a warning indicating the camera is unavailable, leaving them without a visual display while backing up. Although certain driver-assist features may continue to operate, the absence of a functioning rearview camera removes a critical safety safeguard.

More than 413,000 vehicles nationwide are included in the recall, spanning multiple recent model years and some of Volvo’s most popular sedans, wagons, and SUVs. Impacted models include:

  • 2021–2025 Volvo XC40

  • 2022 Volvo V90

  • 2022–2024 Volvo C40 BEV

  • 2022–2025 Volvo S90

  • 2022–2025 Volvo V90 Cross Country

  • 2022–2025 Volvo XC60

  • 2023–2025 Volvo S60

  • 2023–2025 Volvo V60

  • 2023–2025 Volvo V60 Cross Country

  • 2023–2025 Volvo XC90

  • 2025 Volvo EC40

  • 2025 Volvo EX40

Volvo plans to correct the defect through a software update to the vehicle’s park assist module. In many cases, the update will be delivered remotely, while others may require a dealership visit. The repair will be provided at no cost to owners.

Owners will receive formal notice by mail beginning mid-February. In the meantime, drivers can confirm whether their vehicle is affected by contacting Volvo customer support or checking with federal vehicle safety authorities.

For Volvo owners experiencing repeated defects, unresolved safety issues, or extended repair times, this recall may raise potential lemon law concerns.
