Owners of 2021 to 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEVs should be aware of a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall.
The NHTSA reports owners have been complaining about a condition where the engine suddenly shuts down. The U.S. government’s auto safety agency learned about the issue through its Office of Defects Investigation after identifying 68 reports from vehicle owners who answered a questionnaire about their Jeep Wrangler.
Michigan-based Stellanis, which manufactures the Jeep brand, is recalling 94,275 of its Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid electric vehicles due to a loss of motive power in the 2021 to 2024 vehicles.
The problems were first experienced by Jeep owners back in November 2022.
At that time, the automaker recalled 63,000 2021, 2022, and 2023 Wrangler 4xe vehicles. Stellantis provided a calibration software update shortly after to those owners, but additional repaired vehicles failed and new complaints were filed by owners of the 2024 models.
Furthermore, the more current complaints were higher from the new vehicles that were not in the earlier recall.
