Kia Recalls 463,000 Telluride SUVs Again Over Fire Risk; Owners to Park Outside
If you own a 2020–2024 Kia Telluride, it’s time to check whether your SUV is affected by a new safety recall.
Kia America has recalled 462,869 Telluride SUVs due to a defect that could cause the power seat motor to overheat and potentially catch fire, even when the vehicle is parked. The recall applies to vehicles that were previously recalled in 2024 for the same issue, and Kia says a new repair is now required.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem can occur if the front power seat switch becomes damaged or misaligned, causing the seat motor to run continuously until it overheats. In some vehicles, an improper repair performed during the earlier recall may also contribute to the fire risk.
Kia has reported seven seat fires and 11 incidents involving melted seat motors related to the defect.

Until the repair has been completed, Kia is advising owners to:
- 🚗 Park their Telluride outside
- 🏠 Avoid parking near homes, garages, or other vehicles
- 📅 Watch for a recall notice beginning August 13, when dealerships will begin scheduling repairs.
The repair involves installing an electronic fuse assembly designed to prevent the seat motor from operating continuously if the seat switch becomes damaged.
Vehicle owners will be able to search their VIN on the NHTSA website beginning July 17 to determine whether their vehicle is included in the recall.

Multiple recalls for the same safety defect can sometimes be a warning sign that a vehicle has a persistent manufacturing problem. Attorney James Johnson advises that if your Kia Telluride has been in the dealership repeatedly for recall repairs or other recurring issues—and the problem still hasn’t been resolved—you may have rights under the California Lemon Law.
California’s Lemon Law may require the manufacturer to buy back or replace your vehicle if it cannot repair a substantial defect within a reasonable number of attempts.
If your Kia Telluride has spent weeks in the repair shop or continues to experience problems after multiple repair attempts, contact James Johnson and the Johnson Attorneys Group to find out whether you qualify for compensation.
