Luxury British sports car manufacturer Aston Martin has announced a recall of nearly 4,000 vehicles made after 2015.
The announcement comes after the company received complaints about unintended airbag deployment and this has been linked to faulty Daimler steering-column components installed on certain models.
These are the same steering-column parts affecting upwards of one million Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The problem stems from inadequate grounding that can lead to electrostatic charges and cause sudden unintentional deployment of airbags and risk serious injuries.
This is not related to the wide-spread Takata airbag recalls that have injured more than 180 people and killed at least 20. Some 3,873 DB11 Aston Martin coupes affected by this recall were built after production began in late 2015.
Although Mercedes had a few minor injury complaints from the same problem, at this time, there are no known injuries or fatalities linked to this faulty part in the Aston Martin cars. The repairs will be free of charge to owners and take about two hours.
