Roughly 3,300 2017 Maserati Levante SUVs are being recalled due to an engine software glitch that could cause the transmission to slip into neutral or be shut off completely without warning, according to an announcement this week by Maserati.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., owns the Maserati brand which sells about 30,000 cars worldwide. The SUV is the first for the Maserati brand and was launched this year at the Geneva International Motor Show.
Maserati Levante SUV owners are being warned they could be at risk of being in a collision due to this problem, particularly in stop-and-go traffic or speeds about 2 mph with very low RPM.
The Italian brand already recalled the Levante S in January this year for the same problem, but replicating the problem and fixing it was difficult.
Eventually, Maserati engineers created new software and applied it to vehicles on the production line beginning on February 21, 2017.
The manufacturer intends to fix the problem after it uploads new software into the vehicle’s engine control modules.
