Hyundai Issues Stop-Sale Recall for 2026 Palisade SUVs | Dangerous Power Seat Defect

Hyundai Issues Stop-Sale Recall for 2026 Palisade SUVs | Dangerous Power Seat DefectHyundai Motor Company has issued a stop-sale recall for certain 2026 Hyundai Palisade and Palisade Hybrid SUVs after a fatal incident involving a powered second-row seat.

According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the power-folding seat system may lack adequate anti-pinch protection, creating a risk that occupants could become trapped during seat adjustments such as the fold-down or “walk-in” tilt feature used to access the third row. The issue affects Palisade models in the Calligraphy and Limited trims.

The recall follows a tragic case in which a child was killed when a power seat moved unexpectedly. Consumer complaints reviewed in the NHTSA database also describe several similar incidents since late 2025. Two cases reported injuries caused by seats folding or sliding while passengers were entering or exiting the vehicle.

Because of the safety defect, dealerships cannot legally sell any affected new vehicle until it is repaired.

Interim Fix and What Owners Should Do

Hyundai says current owners will receive a free interim software update by the end of March. Vehicles with an active Hyundai BlueLink subscription can install the update over the air. Meanwhile, others will need to take their vehicle to a dealership.

The software update is intended to improve the seat system’s response when it encounters an object or occupant and add additional safeguards. A permanent repair is still being developed.

In the meantime, Hyundai advises owners to ensure no one—and nothing—is in the seat-folding area before activating the power seat controls.

Dealerships may also provide rental vehicles upon request for drivers of affected SUVs.
