35,674 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs Recalled for Door Problem

Some owners of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport compact SUVs may unexpectedly have their doors fly open while driving due to a faulty inside door latch mechanism.

The inside door latches may not work properly at higher temperatures, though they work correctly under normal weather conditions.

Mitsubishi Motors North America reported that the latch elements manufactured by its Japanese parts supplier Ansei Corporation are the problem. Apparently, the dimensions of some of these components were not correct and did not match the vehicle’s specifications.

Mitsubishi Recall Information

Owners of these vehicles may bring their vehicle to the Mitsubishi dealer for a free replacement of their door latch. There are no known injuries associated with this defective door latch.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall number is 17V233000 and the manufacturer recall number is SR-17-002.
