By Attorney James Johnson, Esq.
As we head into the busy holiday travel season, I want to remind clients that the last thing anyone needs is car trouble, especially when that car is brand new. Unfortunately, many California drivers are learning the hard way that even 2024 models aren’t immune to serious defects.
This year, Johnson Attorneys Group has represented dozens of clients under California’s Lemon Law, helping them get compensation or replacement vehicles when manufacturers failed to fix ongoing problems. Here are just a few examples of the cases we successfully resolved in 2025:
2022 Land Rover Discovery – Persistent “Sputtering” and Power Loss
Our client’s luxury SUV began sputtering and losing acceleration around 30,000 miles. Despite multiple repair attempts and part replacements, the problem kept returning — leaving the driver without a reliable vehicle for months. After three failed repair visits, the dealership still couldn’t fix the issue. We fought to ensure the client was compensated for their defective vehicle and the significant inconvenience it caused.
2024 Jeep Wagoneer – Electrical Failures and Sudden Shutdowns
Another client came to us after their brand-new Jeep Wagoneer developed severe electrical issues — including a charging port that had to be replaced twice, malfunctioning cameras, and even complete power loss while driving. These aren’t just annoying issues — they’re dangerous. We stepped in, and through the Lemon Law process, helped our client hold the manufacturer accountable for selling a vehicle that never should have been on the road in that condition.
2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid – Safety Hazards and System Failures
Perhaps the most alarming case we handled this year involved a 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. The vehicle experienced persistent electronic control module defects, hybrid system errors, and even unexpected system shutdowns while driving. After a “safety repair” for a frozen rear-view camera, the vehicle completely lost engine power just weeks later. These repeated failures created a serious safety hazard for our client. We pushed hard against the manufacturer — and won fair compensation under the Lemon Law.
You Have Rights Under California’s Lemon Law

If you’ve had to take your new car back to the dealership repeatedly for the same issue — or if it’s been in the shop for extended periods — you may be entitled to a refund or replacement.
Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are safe and functional. When they’re not, California’s Lemon Law gives consumers real power to fight back — and we’re here to make sure that happens.
