Owners of certain Lamborghini vehicles may reconsider revving their engines after they learn it may cause an engine fire.
If you are one of the 12 people who own a $4 million Lamborghini Veneno supercar you should know the vehicle has been recalled due to a potential fire risk and revving the engine at idle may set off a fire.
Indeed, the emissions-control system in these vehicles may malfunction under certain conditions. If this happens, there is an increased risk of gasoline vapors mixing with hot gases, a combination that could spark a fire in the engine, according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Revving the engine only makes matters worse.
Lamborghini is also recalling three Veneno couples, nine Veneno Roadsters and 5,900 Aventadors, which have a version of the 6.5-liter V12 used by the Veneno model. The issue is compounded if aftermarket exhaust systems are installed as is the case for Aventador owners.
The recall affects all Aventadors as well as the Veneno versions that were manufactured between built May 22 2011 and December 5th 2016. The recall does not affect the new Aventador S or the Aventador SV models.
There are no known injuries reported and customers are being notified immediately. Owners may take their vehicles back to the Lamborghini dealership for repairs.
