Honda, Acura Brake Pedal Recall: Your Rights Under the California Lemon Law

Recall Alert: Owners of 2023 to 2025 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX; 2021 to 2025 Acura TLX

Recall Alert: Owners of 2023 to 2025 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX; 2021 to 2025 Acura TLXIf you’ve recently purchased or leased a Honda Pilot, Acura TLX, or Acura MDX, a serious safety issue may put your vehicle—and your peace of mind—at risk.

Honda is recalling over 259,000 vehicles due to a potentially dangerous brake pedal defect that could interfere with a driver’s ability to slow down or stop. If you’ve experienced brake problems in one of these recalled models, you may be entitled to compensation or a vehicle buyback under California’s Lemon Law.

What’s the Issue?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem lies in the brake pedal pivot pin—a critical component that may not have been properly secured during production. If that pin shifts out of place, the pedal itself can:

  • Shift out of position
  • Feel abnormal when pressed
  • Keep your brake lights on even when you’re not braking
  • Trigger a brake malfunction warning
  • Worst of all: increase the risk of a crash

The recall affects the following vehicles:

  • 2023–2025 Honda Pilot
  • 2021–2025 Acura TLX
  • 2023–2025 Acura MDX

What Is Honda Doing?

Honda says that authorized dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the brake pedal assembly at no cost to the owner. Dealer notifications began on June 13, and owners will begin receiving recall letters by July 28, 2025.

What Are My Legal Rights?

Under California’s Lemon Law, if your vehicle has a significant defect that affects its safety, use, or value—and the manufacturer can’t fix the issue after a reasonable number of attempts—you may be entitled to:

  • A vehicle replacement
  • A buyback (refund of your payments and down payment)
  • Compensation for repair costs, towing, and rental expenses
  • This law applies even if your vehicle is under warranty or leased, and you don’t need to wait for the recall repair to fail before contacting an attorney.

What Should You Do Next?

If you’ve noticed:

  • Strange brake pedal behavior
  • Persistent brake lights
  • Brake warning lights
  • Or any loss of braking performance

… it’s time to take action. These issues could be signs of a serious safety defect—and you may already qualify for relief under California Lemon Law.
