General Motors is recalling roughly 27,000 SUVs due to a glitch that affects the 2021 vehicles’ steering. Specifically, the models subject to the recall are: 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV vehicles; Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe vehicles; and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles. The recall comes after a field report discovered a loss of power steering assist in GM’s Yukon models.
The issue was turned over to GM’s Open Investigation Review board after the Detroit-based automaker found diagnostic trouble codes indicating there is a software bug. The company opened an investigation into the matter on April 6th, 2021.
Finally, a decision to recall the Yukon and fellow T1xx utility vehicles was made by General Motors. Owners may notice increased effort is required to steer the vehicle and this may lead to a collision, particularly if the power steering fails without notice.
General Motors Recall 2021
Some owners may opt to have their vehicle updated using wireless over-the-air technology so they do not have to take their SUV to the dealership.
However, GM also offers owners of these SUVs a manual update. Also, certain vehicles, ones that were part of the captured test fleet, will require a replacement steering gear motor kit.
The Detroit, Michigan-based automaker plans to notify owners about the recall on August 2nd by first-class mail. The update is likely to take roughly 30 minutes either way.
The affected SUVs start at $49,600 for the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe with the most expensive being the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV at $108,290 before options.
