Ford Recalls 2,900, 2006 Ranger Pickups for Dangerous Airbags After West Virginia Man's Death2006 Ford Ranger Pickups Recalled for Airbags

Ford is warning owners of 2006 Ranger pickup trucks to stop driving them due to dangerous airbags that my cause injuries or death.

A 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck equipped with defective Takata airbags has killed a West Virginia man after the airbags exploded during a minor collision.

Steve Mollohan, 56, of Hedgesville, W. Va, died on July 1 when he was fatally injured after his vehicle’s airbags reportedly exploded in the minor accident. His death is the 21st worldwide caused by Takata inflators.

The collision comes just two years after another man died under similar circumstances.

The latest recall specifically involves 2,900 vehicles and takes place about a year after one for 800,000 vehicles was made in 2015 for the same problem.

Investigators have learned that the inflator on Mollohan’s truck was manufactured on the very same day the other victim’s vehicle was made. In that case, a South Carolina man driving a similar Ranger was killed by his Ranger’s exploding airbags in 2015.

Owners of these vehicles may request their vehicle be repaired at their home or have them towed in to the dealership for repairs. Ford will provide a loaner vehicle to Ford Ranger owners as necessary.

“It is extremely important that all high-risk air bags are tracked down and replaced immediately,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
