Chrysler Recalls 320,000 Jeep Plug-In Hybrids Over Fire Risk Linked to Faulty Battery

Fire Risk in Faulty Battery Leads to Recall of Jeep Hybrid Vehicles

Chrysler is recalling more than 320,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid vehicles after federal regulators said defective batteries could fail and cause fires, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects 228,221 Jeep Wranglers from model years 2020–2025 and 91,844 Jeep Grand Cherokees from 2022–2026. Chrysler, which is owned by Stellantis, said it has received 19 reports and one injury potentially linked to the defect.

Owners are being urged not to charge their vehicles and to park them outside and away from structures until repairs are available. The issue stems from battery packs supplied by Samsung SDI America, based in Auburn Hills, Mich.

What Can Jeep Owners Do?

The company plans to mail interim notification letters to owners by Dec. 2, 2025, with additional updates once a permanent remedy is finalized. Owners can reference recall number 68C or contact Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403. Vehicle identification numbers associated with the recall will be searchable at NHTSA.gov starting November 6, 2025.

This latest recall expands upon previous actions involving the same vehicles and battery issue, meaning even Jeeps repaired under prior recalls will require the new fix once it’s approved.

For consumers dealing with recurring or unresolved repair issues on recalled vehicles, this situation highlights the importance of California’s Lemon Law, which may provide relief for owners whose vehicles remain unsafe or unusable after multiple repair attempts.
