The owners of certain 2014 and 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks say since they purchased their vehicles it’s been a rough ride as their vehicles experience an unexplained shaking or vibrations.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website lists numerous complaints about the vibration problem and owners say dealerships have been unable to find a remedy to the situation.
The problem seems most noticeable above speeds of 45 mph. Drivers say the motion makes them feel dizzy or gives them a headache. The extent of vibrating goes up and down at all speeds.
Dealerships advised some owners that the problem is likely a wheel balance issue, but so far that hasn’t remedied the situation. Other options owners have tried included changing all four wheels, fixing the rear differential, drive shafts and shock absorbers. None of these changes have resolved the problem for the pickup trucks, but some SUV owners stated the new tires helped.
There are roughly 300 complaints on the NHTSA database about the 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles. About 10 percent of those address the vibration problem. One owner stated that General Motors admits the vibration is due to the way the vehicle is designed and cannot be fixed.
General Motors has acknowledged that there may be a problem and issued a preliminary service bulletin on August 14, 2015 to alert technicians about the vibration issue. This provides procedures that may help diagnose the problem and repair vibrations caused by the wheels or tires as well as axle components or propeller shafts.
