Kia America in Irvine recently issued a recall for roughly 463,000 Telluride SUVs due to a potential fire risk.
The automaker wants owners of the SUVs to park them away from structures and outside.
A stuck slide knob that operates the power front seats may cause the motor inside to overheat and spark a fire.
The vehicles subject to recall are the 2020 to 2024 Telluride SUVs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Federal safety officials warn a fire could result while the car is parked or driven.
The decision to recall the vehicles was made by Kia on May 29, 2024.
Company officials were notified of seven incidents between August 2022 and March 2024. One was for an under-the-seat fire and the other six incidents involved the seat’s tilt motor melting.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, crashes, or fatalities from the issue.
Owners of the affected vehicles can have them fixed at Kia dealerships where they will install a bracket for the power seat switch back covers and replace the defective knobs for free.
Recall Details
- 462,869 model year 2020-2024 Tellurides
- Manufactured between Jan. 9, 2019 and May 29, 2024.

This is the second recall this year for Telluride owners. Kia America recalled roughly 427,000 Telluride of its 2020 to 2024 Telluride SUVs in March due to a roll away risk.
Also, both Kia and Hyundai issued a recall last fall for 3 million to 4 million other cars and SUVs due to a risk of engine compartment fires.
