This month Ford Motor Company issued a safety recall for certain 2021 F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks equipped with dual rear wheels. The affected vehicles have front-wheel hub extenders. However, these extenders were apparently not tightened properly by the automaker’s supplier.
Vehicles that have this condition are at risk for having the tire and wheel assembly detach from the front axle. If this happens, the driver is also at risk of a collision. Also, a detachment that happens while a person is driving could create a road hazard.
This action affects 17,616 Super Duty pickup trucks located in the United States as well as federal territories. Additionally, there are 1,779 of these affected vehicles in Canada and 231 in Mexico.
At this time, Dearborn, Mich-based auto manufacturer has not reported any accidents or injuries resulting from this problem.
Ford began to notify owners in mid-June about the problem. They are asked not to drive their vehicle because the dealer needs to ensure the front-wheel hub extender nuts are tightened. Also, the truck should be towed to the dealership. Owners should contact their dealership for service
The Ford reference number for this recall is 21S26.
