Kia recalls 106,428 Sedona minivans for faulty power sliding doors

Kia is recalling more than 100,000 Sedona minivans due to a software glitch that has resulted in injuries with its 2015 to 2018 models, according to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The vehicles were reportedly assembled from July 21, 2014 to December 6, 2017.

The problem specifically is the sliding doors are supposed to automatically stop and reverse if there is an obstruction detected, but in some vehicles this was not working properly and 21 complaints were made to the NHTSA about the problem. Two of the complaints have been confirmed by the Korean automaker and the recall is meant to address this problem and correct it for owners.

Kia will notify owners of the affected vehicles in a mailing to be sent out on June 18. They will be instructed to schedule an appointment with their local dealership and have their module software for their power sliding doors reprogrammed free of charge.
