Faulty software that could prevent airbags from deploying in a collision is to blame for the most recent recall by GMC.
More than 88,000 select Terrain SUVs from the 2018 model year are experiencing problems stemming from when the software module fails. Specifically, vehicles that were built between March 14, 2017 and May 22, 2018.
GMC says if this problem is affecting your vehicle, it’s likely that an “airbag warning lamp will be illuminated, the driver information center will display a ‘service restraint system’ message, and warning chimes will sound.”
So far there are no reports of any accidents, nor any injuries or fatalities. GMC dealerships will offer a loaner vehicle to owners whose vehicles are still under the manufacturer warranty.
Total recalls: 88,129 GMC Terrain SUVs (2018 model year)
Problem: Airbag sensor may not power down properly when vehicles is turned off or when it’s turned restarted.
