DETROIT, Mich. (Dec. 13, 2017) — More than 500,000 vehicles manufactured by Hyundai and Kia are being recalled in the U.S. due to a glitch that causes the brake lights to stay on when the driver releases the pedal.
The problem affects some 390,000 Hyundai Elantra vehicles with the model years 2013 and 2014. Additionally, the recall covers 134,000 Kia Forte vehicles made from 2012 through 2014.
The auto maker states that a polymer stopper pad that is located between the pedal arm and the light switch could deteriorate and if this happens the light switch may stay on. If this happens the brake lights would stay illuminated. Also, the driver could shift out of park without pressing their foot on the brake pedal.
