CALIFORNIA (July 23, 2025) — Chrysler has issued a recall for over 120,000 Jeep SUVs due to a dangerous defect that could increase the risk of injury in a crash — and for some vehicle owners, this may be more than just a recall. It could be grounds for a California Lemon Law claim.
According to a July 17 report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects 121,398 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L models from 2023 and 2024. Chrysler, owned by Stellantis, revealed that second-row seat head restraints may fail to lock in the upright position, potentially exposing passengers to serious injury during a collision.
Chrysler stated, “Head restraints that do not lock can result in an increased risk of injury to seat occupants during a crash.”
Vehicles Affected:
-
2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee (78,157 units)
-
2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (43,241 units)
These vehicles were manufactured between May 16, 2023, and May 2, 2024.
The issue has been assigned NHTSA campaign number 25V472000 and manufacturer recall number 20C. Chrysler will notify dealers by July 24, and vehicle owners should expect notifications by September 5. Repairs will be made at no cost.
