Tesla Recalls Most of its Cybertruck for Exterior Trim Panel Repair

Tesla recalls 46,000 Cybertruck vehicles to repair a cosmetic exterior trim that is a potential road hazard or collision if it detaches while the vehicle is in motion.

The voluntary recall affects Cybertrucks made between November 2023 and February 2025, according to a March 18th letter by the automaker to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agreement to issue a recall came after the automotive safety agency discussed the issue with Tesla officials.

“The adhesive used to hold the piece can fail, causing the cant rail to separate from the vehicle,” the NHTSA recall notice states.

Cybertruck owners will need to return their vehicle to a Tesla service center for free replacement of the trim or “cant rail,” the letter says.

Tesla has received numerous requests for repairs from owners whose exterior trim panels have delaminated and detached from their vehicles.

Indeed, the stainless steel Cybertruck has been plagued by manufacturing problems since the futuristic trucks hit the road in November 2023. The NHTSA’s website lists nine recalls for the Cybertruck.

Meanwhile, Tesla is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to the issue, the NHTSA said.

Finally, Cybertruck owners with a safety complaint or concern can fill out a Vehicle Owner’s Questionnaire online, or call the agency’s hotline to let regulators know there may be an issue. The number is: 888-327-4236.
