Taycan and Macan EVs Affected by Safety Defects; Owners Urged to Act Promptly
By Lemon Law Attorney James Johnson
Porsche owners—especially those driving Taycans or Macan EVs—should be aware of two major recalls recently announced by Porsche Cars North America, impacting more than 18,000 vehicles due to safety defects involving airbags and rearview cameras.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 9,735 model year 2022-2023 Porsche Taycan vehicles are being recalled because of a manufacturing defect in the front passenger seat’s occupant classification system. This error may cause the airbag to deactivate when it should be active, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Porsche attributes the issue to a flawed crimp connection in the seat cushion’s heating mat wiring. Impacted Taycan owners will receive a free seat cushion replacement with an optimized design.
Additionally, 8,571 model year 2024-2025 Porsche Macan electric crossovers are being recalled due to a software bug that may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. A subset of these vehicles may also have faulty camera housing bonds, allowing moisture to seep in and cause blurry images. Porsche will update the software and inspect or replace the camera housing if needed—at no cost to owners.
As a Lemon Law attorney, I urge Porsche drivers to take these recalls seriously. If you’ve experienced recurring issues related to these defects or have faced repeated trips to the dealership without resolution, you may be entitled to compensation or a replacement vehicle under California’s Lemon Law.
