Major Recall for 2021 to 2025 Polstar 2 Model Electric Vehicles
Polestar issued a recall for more than 27,800 Polestar 2 electric vehicles in the U.S. due to a serious safety issue affecting the rearview camera display.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain 2021–2025 Polestar 2 models may fail to display an image while the car is in reverse — the defect may significantly increase the risk of a crash.
The issue stems from synchronization errors between the Parking Assist Camera (PAC) and the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU), along with a problem in the IHU’s video hardware. Instead of showing the rear camera feed, drivers may see a warning that reads “Camera is temporarily unavailable.”
Polestar reported that the malfunction could affect any Polestar 2 vehicle manufactured between July 2020 and November 2023. Although the automaker no longer produces this model for the U.S. market, thousands of California drivers may still be affected.
The company will address the problem with a software update, which will ensure that the connection between the camera and the display stays active and adds an automatic reset function if synchronization fails.
Recall notices will be mailed to owners starting June 19, 2025.
What If You Bought a Defective Vehicle?
If your new or leased vehicle has been repeatedly repaired for a serious issue, or has spent an excessive time in the shop, you could be entitled to compensation under California’s Lemon Law. This includes electric vehicles like the Polestar 2.
Under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, you could be eligible for a buyback, replacement, or cash settlement if your vehicle qualifies as a lemon.
