Kia America to Replace Defective Roof Molding
Kia America has announced a recall for more than 101,000 minivans and SUVs after the automaker discovered a major safety hazard involving possible roof detachment.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports roof molding could loosen or detach while a person is driving the vehicle due to improper installation at the assembly plant, according to a report by Cars.com.
Federal safety regulators say these vehicles have experienced loud noises and may show visible lifting of the roof molding.
“Motorists could lose their roof while driving if the molding comes loose and that is a significant safety hazard,” said California Lemon Law Attorney James Johnson.
Owners of certain 2023 and 2024 Kia Sportage SUVs and 2022 t0 2024 Kia Carnival minivan models are included in the Kia recall due to the potential for roof detachment.
The automaker plans to send out notification letters to owners of the affected vehicles beginning on March 15, 2024, asking them to bring the vehicle to the dealership to repair or replace roof molding.
