Hyundai Santa Fe Recall Could Trigger Lemon Law Claims
Hyundai is recalling more than 135,000 of its 2024–2025 Santa Fe models due to a defective motor terminal cover that could cause an electrical short and potentially lead to a crash. If you own one of these vehicles and have experienced electrical issues, stalling, warning lights, or safety concerns, you may have lemon law rights.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall involves 135,386 Santa Fe SUVs built between December 28, 2023, and July 7, 2025. The issue stems from improperly installed B+ terminal covers on the starter motor assembly. When not installed correctly, the cover can make contact with the cooling fan assembly, creating an electrical short.
Hyundai believes about one percent of affected vehicles have the defect, but even a single electrical short can create a serious safety risk. So far, the company has reported at least one thermal incident showing signs of electrical failure, although no crashes, injuries, or deaths have been linked to this defect in the U.S. yet.
RECALL: What Owners of Hyundai Santa Fe Should Know
Furthermore, if your vehicle is part of the recall, Hyundai will send you a notice in the mail with instructions to visit a dealership for an inspection and proper reinstallation of the terminal cover. The repair will be performed at no cost, and reimbursement is available for anyone who has already paid for related repairs.
Concerned Your Santa Fe Might Be a Lemon?
Even with a recall repair, some vehicles continue to have electrical or mechanical issues. If your Santa Fe has been in the shop repeatedly, lost value due to safety defects, or doesn’t perform as promised, you could be entitled to a vehicle replacement, refund, or cash compensation under state lemon laws. However, a recall doesn’t wipe away your rights.
Finally, if you’ve already taken your Santa Fe in for repairs—or you’re worried about ongoing safety problems—speak with a lemon law attorney to protect your rights and explore your options.
