Honda announced a massive recall for 720,810 vehicles including its popular Accord, Civic, CR-V gas, and hybrid models due to defective fuel pumps.
The automaker submitted documents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to recall its 2023–2024 Accord and Accord Hybrid, the 2025 Civic and Civic Hybrid, and the 2023–2025 CR-V Hybrid.
Honda reports a production issue with its high-pressure fuel pumps has led to cracks forming on the solenoid core. This can worsen over time and could lead to a fuel leak and a potential fire. A fuel pump failure could also be a safety risk.
During the production of these vehicles, some machined chips got between the cutting tool and the fuel pump. This created excessive torque and lead to cracking in the solenoid, according to the NHTSA report.
Also, the report says drivers may discover they have a problem if they smell of fuel when driving or idling.
Honda intends to contact the owners of all vehicles affected by the issue.
These vehicles should be taken to authorized dealers for inspection and replacement of fuel pumps if necessary.
The new replacement parts will have solenoid components with improved dimensions, inner diameter machining, and baking conditions.
Anyone who previously paid to have their vehicle’s fuel pump replaced could be eligible for reimbursement.
Honda has also began to notify dealerships about the recall and will send notices to owners on December 4.
This recall is the second this month by Honda. The first was earlier in October for 1.7 million cars due to steering wheel issues. The models from the earlier recall include the Honda Civic,
Honda Civic Type R, Honda CR-V, Honda HR-V, Acura Integra, and Acura Integra Type S.
