becauFord Recall Puts Drivers at Risk — and Your Lemon Law Rights
The Ford Motor Company issued a safety recall for 9,181 of its 2025 F-150 pickup trucks due to a serious steering defect that could put drivers and passengers at risk.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue involves loose or improperly attached fasteners on the lower intermediate shaft. This is a critical component that connects the steering wheel to the steering gear.
If these fasteners come loose or detach, drivers could experience a complete loss of steering control. That may lead to an extremely dangerous scenario as it could increase the risk of a crash.
Why This Ford Recall for 2025 Trucks Is a Major Safety Concern
Unlike cosmetic or minor mechanical problems, steering system failures are among the most dangerous defects a vehicle can have. The ability to safely maneuver a vehicle is foundational to driver and passenger safety. A sudden inability to steer, especially at high speeds or in traffic, could have catastrophic consequences.
Furthermore, the intermediate shaft is a vital part of the steering mechanism. If it’s not properly secured, even minor bumps in the road could cause the shaft to shift or detach and drivers could lose control of their vehicle. Ford has acknowledged the defect and is directing its dealers to inspect and replace the fasteners as necessary, at no cost to the owner.
Additionally, Ford will mail owner notification letters on May 26.
Can This Qualify for a Lemon Law Claim?
Auto manufacturers typically handle recalls, however, persistent and unresolved vehicle defects could provide grounds for a California Lemon Law claim.
If your 2025 Ford F-150 has experienced multiple issues with the steering system, or repeated problems that compromise the safety, use, or value of your vehicle, you could be entitled to a buyback, replacement vehicle, or cash compensation under California’s lemon law.
To qualify, your vehicle typically must:
- Be under the manufacturer’s warranty
- Should be taken to the dealership for repairs for a safety issue or multiple times for the same or related issue
- Still be experiencing the defect, or have been out of service for 30 days or more
What Should You Do Next?
Owners of 2025 Ford F-150 pickup trucks should check their mail for the official recall notice. Also, owners may contact the dealership to confirm if a vehicle is affected. Even if your vehicle hasn’t shown symptoms yet, it’s essential to have the fasteners inspected as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, if your truck has already shown steering problems, or if you’ve made multiple visits to the dealership for steering-related repairs, it may be time to speak with an experienced lemon law attorney.
