Audi Recalls 1.2 Million Cars, SUVs for Fire Risk in Electric Coolant Pumps

Audi RecallElectric Coolant Pumps May Overheat, Cause Fire

Some 1.2 million cars and SUVs worldwide are scheduled to be under recall on June 11 by Audi due to electric coolant pumps that could overheat and possibly cause a fire. Specifically, the recall is targeting all vehicles with 2-Liter turbocharged engines including A4 vehicles made between 2013 and 2016, the 2013 to 2017 A5, as well as A6 vehicles made between 2012 to 2015. Additionally, the Audi Q5 SUV’s made from 2013 through 2017.

According to U.S. government documents, the Volkswagen luxury brand reports that some of the pumps have become blocked with debris from the cooling system or moisture that could cause an electrical short. In some rare cases, the problem could spark a fire in the pumps.

Owners of these vehicles may take their vehicle to the dealership for a free replacement pump, however, these parts are not going to be ready until November. Until then, dealers are installing a new version of the original pump to protect vehicle owners.

A year ago, Audi recalled the same vehicles for a software update.
