The 2016 Toyota Camry is America’s No. 1 selling vehicle with more than 32,000 vehicles sold as of June 2016, but despite it’s popularity there are bound to be a few lemons in the mix.
One of the reasons it may be so popular is its affordability. US News and World Report ranks it No. 2 on its list of 18 affordable cars.
Indeed, most of the overall complaints about the midsize sedan are minor, but some owners have complained their vehicle has too many problems and have turned to lemon law attorneys for help.
Here are some common problems about the 2016 Toyota Camry:
- Power steering issues
- Excessive oil comsumption
- Poor sound system quality
- Uncomfortable seats
- Lacks storage space
- Sticky dashboard
- Sun visor problems
- Lack of power/acceleration
Owners of these vehicles — who have repeatedly had problems with their Toyota — may have grounds for a lemon law claim. Under California law, a vehicle owner whose car is still under the original factory warranty has at least three options. First, if the vehicle is taken in to the dealership for repairs for the same problem four times, it can be eligible for a buyback or replacement vehicle. Also, if the repairs involve a safety issue, there only needs to be two repair attempts made to make a claim. If your vehicle spends 30 or more days in the shop it can also be deemed a lemon. The vehicle must still be under warranty when the problems occurred.

2016 Toyota Camry Passenger Air Bag Recall
NHTSA Campaign #16V215000
On April 14, 2016, a recall was announced affecting 58,515 2016 Toyota Camry and Avalon vehicles was made due to a problem with the occupant classification system that activates or deactivates the seat belts. Specifically, the mechanism affects the front passenger air bags and knee air bags. Should these air bags not respond during a collision, there is a potential risk of injury involved. As a result of this problem, the vehicles do not comply with regulations under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”
Toyota says it notified owners and dealerships about the issue. The dealers will recalibrate the system at no charge to owners.
Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371.
