The Ford Bronco, built as the automaker’s first sport utility vehicle in 1966, returned in 2020 after a 25-year hiatus. However, owners of the smaller-size, 2021 Ford Bronco Sport SUV, are finding this SUV is living up to its name and having a rocky start.
There are three recalls for this SUV including one for loose or missing rear suspension bolts. A February recall was due to the risk of a rollover and a third recall prompted because of the rear drive unit seizing.
Also, two journalists reviewing the popular SUV noted the SUV complained that the SUV overheated driving uphill.
Latest Recall: Missing Bolts
The SUV’s rear suspension modules may not be completely secured to the subframe due to missing or loose bolts, according to the recall.
As a result of this, Ford is recalling 1,666 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles to address the potentially loose suspension problem. If not fixed, a rear-end crash could be a safety issue.
Most of the recalled vehicles are in the United States. Also, there are 24 located in Canada and two in Mexico. The crossover SUVs were built in Hermosillo, Mexico. The manufacture date is between July 22 and November 24, 2020.
Ford said internal investigations reveal the affected vehicles were shipped with loose or missing rear suspension bolts.
Since its 2020 release, the Bronco Sport features a rear suspension that is bolted to a subframe. Ford noted the ride was a bit jittery. Also, they found that some of the suspension bolt components holding up the subframe were either loose or completely missing. Fortunately, there are no injuries or accidents reported at this time. Also, there are no known incidents linked to the issue. The Bronco Sport is a smaller version of the larger Bronco.
