Owners of certain Honda and Acura vehicles are at risk of their car experiencing a loss in engine power or stalling due to defective fuel pumps installed in some 136,057 of the 2018 through 2020 models.
American Honda has now issued a recall for these vehicles due to the increased safety risk presented by the faulty fuel pumps. Due to exposure to solvents in the manufacturing process, some of the fuel pump components in the tank could eventually crack and the pump could fail. At this time, there are no reported crashes resulting from the defective pumps.
The recall notices are expected to go out to owners in July 2020.
The vehicles affected include the 2018 to 2019 Acura NSX; 2019 Acura RDX, RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid vehicles. Also, the 2018 to 2019 Honda Accord, Honda Civic Hatchback, Honda Civic Type R; Honda HR-V; 2019 Honda Fit; and 2019-2020 Honda Insight.
Both Acura and Honda dealerships will replace the fuel pumps on affected models at no charge to owners.
