A safety defect affecting nearly 10,000 Toyota RAV4s and RAV4 hybrid vehicles was reported this week, halting sales of the popular SUV at dealerships throughout the country.
Some 9,502 of these 2019 and 2020 RAV4 SUVs were recalled due to a potential crash risk that could prove to be deadly.
The problem stems from a faulty front lower suspension arm that could separate from the wheel assembly.
The vehicles were manufactured under improper conditions at the steel supplier’s plant, according to a defect report released by Toyota. The company stated that cracks in the surface of the steel were found and these could spread and cause the suspension arm to separate from the wheel. Affected vehicles were made in September and October of 2019.
The auto maker, which has stopped all sales of these particular vehicles pending their repair, is expected to send out notifications to owners of these vehicles beginning on July 19th. Toyota will replace the defective parts on these vehicles at no cost to owners.
