There are some trouble spots in most cars, but it’s not something you expect to find in a 2019 Cadillac CT6 sedan.
Indeed, the luxury sedan has overall good ratings, but it does have some issues with its climate system, in-car electronics and transmission, according to Consumer Reports. Also, a safety issue involving the brakes has prompted a recall of some of these vehicles.
Specifically, roughly 821 of the CT6 sedans with the 2.0-liter turbo-four and twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8s are also subject to a General Motors recall for Electronic Brake Control Module software problems. At issue is a problem where the brake control software might decativate the electronic stability control and antilock brake system. If this should happen, the vehicle’s diagnostics system may fail to illuminate a warning light on the driver’s dashboard. Drivers who are not aware of the system failure could be at an increased risk of a crash. The models do not comply with US regulations.
The recall, expected to begin in late January 2020, involves a total of 463,995 General Motors vehicles. The majority of the affected GM vehicles are the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks. Owners of affected vehicles should take their vehicles to the dealership for a free repair to update the software. Notifications are expected to begin on Jan. 27th, 2020.
For more information on the recall visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA also has two complaints about this vehicle including one where the brake booster failed and required replacing at just 1,800 miles. The owner reported that the brake system failed to engage while driving the 2019 Cadillac CT6. Another safety issue reported to the NHTSA involves the vehicle’s sideview mirrors failed to automatically open. Apparently, the driver was unaware that when they got into the car and drove off that the mirrors remained closed.
Despite the problems reported so far, the CT6 is known for its spirited ride and quiet interior, Consumer Reports said.
The CT6 base engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder, but there is also midlevel non-turbo V6 and the V8 version that both offer all-wheel drive as a standard feature.
