A recall by Ford in 2016 for certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles could expand from 153,000 to 1,375,577 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Federal safety regulators are investigating the problem and will determine what should be done about a downshifting problem that initially affected 153,000 model year 2016 vehicles: Ford F-150 pickups, Ford Expedition SUVs, Lincoln Navigator and Ford Mustangs. The next stage would be to expand into the 2013 models of these same vehicles.
The NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigations has received 123 complaints on certain automatic transmission Ford vehicles. The transmission may slip unexpectedly into first gear and the vehicle could slow down suddenly potentially causing a collision.
