Kia Motors to Recall 342,000 to Correct Steering Defect Previously Recalled

Kia Motors has announced a recall of 342,000 vehicles to repair the same steering defect as in a previous recall. The first repairs made on for the steering problem was insufficient.

The vehicles affected by the recall are certain 2014 to 2016 Soul and Soul EV vehicles. The problem stems from a pinion plug that was not properly secured in the vehicles. The pinion gear may separate from the steering assembly and if this should happen there could be a loss of steering.

“The loss of power to a steering wheel or malfunctioning may lead to a serious or fatal traffic accident,” said California Lemon Law Attorney James Johnson. “Owners of these vehicles with repeated problems may have grounds for a claim under California lemon laws to replace their vehicle or have it repurchased.”

Indeed, if a vehicle suffers from repeated unrepairable problems or has a major safety issue, an automaker could be made to buy it back or replace it under certain situations.
