12,458 Hybrids Recalled for Engine Stalling
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued a recall this week for roughly 12K of its 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x hybrid vehicles due to a problematic engine stalling issue.
This is the third recall for this model in 2023 which includes the plug-in hybrid model. Specifically, the recall targets Jeeps with the 2.0-liter inline-4 engine because there has been a loss of communication between the transmission and the hybrid control modules that may cause it to shut down. If this happens while a person is driving the vehicle could be involved in a collision.
So far, the automaker knows of 23 instances where they happened, but fortunately, there were injuries or collisions involved.
The dealership can fix the problem by updating the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s calibration software.
Stellantis, parent of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles which oversees the Jeep brand. The automaker will notify owners by mail beginning on July 28, 2023.
If motorists already fixed the problem, the automaker will reimburse them if there is an original receipt or “other adequate proof of payment.”
