Recall: Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD Pickup Trucks
A faulty brake system and potential fire risk is the reason behind a recall for 40,428 of the 2019 to 2023 model Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD pickup trucks by General Motors.
The brake system in these heavy-duty pickup trucks may short-circuit and catch fire, leading to a possible collision and risk of injuries. If this happens, the truck owner could get a “Service Brake System” warning.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is aware of at least one fire resulting from the issue. They reported the brake pressure switch in these Chevrolet work truck that could short and cause an under-the-hood fire that could quickly spread throughout the vehicle.
Specifically, the short-circuit may result if the brake pressure sensor assembly leaks fluid into the pressure switch. This could cause a fire whether the pickup truck is on the road or parked, the NHTSA reported.
Owners of these vehicles are advised to pull over if they see smoke or a fire. Also, it’s recommended that the truck is parked outside and away from structures until it is repaired.
Chevrolet dealerships will make repairs at no charge including upgrading and replacing the brake pressure switch in these vehicles. Also, dealers will check replace the connecting harness for damage if necessary.
Check with GM directly to find out if your Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD or 6500HD is subject to the recall.
