You’ve seen the signs — shuddering — jerking — check engine warning lights — so maybe it’s time to rid yourself of that lemon.
If you are the owner of a Ford Focus, these issues may sound familiar to you. In fact, some Focus owners have complained about their brand new car having continuous problems with the transmission.
Ford may have updated its clutch packs for the 2012 to 2017 Ford Focus as well as the 2011 to 2017 Ford Fiesta sedans, but car enthusiasts say their functionality is no different.
Most people would agree that a shaking and shuddering transmission is not normal, but the Ford dealership may try to convince you otherwise. Don’t believe it.
To address problems with its vehicles, about three years ago Ford launched its 14M01 program to extend the warranty on its transmission system for the 2012 to 2014 Ford Focus as well as the 2011 to 2014 Ford Fiesta. The new warranty gives owners 7 years or 100,000 miles, after the 5-year/60,000 mile warranty is up and covers the PowerShift 6-speed automatic transmission (DPS6), transmission system clutches, transmission system inner and outer input shaft seals, and the transmission system software for the transmission control module (TCM) in the 2012-2014 Ford Focus and the 2011-2014 Ford Fiesta.
Shortly after releasing 14M01, Ford Motor Company released 14M02, which extends the transmission system warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles on the transmission control module (TCM) itself for the 2012-2014 Ford Focus and the 2011-2014 Ford Fiesta.
However, just because you have a warranty, it doesn’t mean that the manufacturer is going to step up and cover your mechanical problems.
It can be difficult to negotiate a fair settlement with an auto manufacturer. If you have having continuous problems with your vehicle and believe you have a lemon, it’s time to end the frustration and call an attorney.
