GM RECALL: 8 Million Vehicles Have Safety Defects in Latest Recall by Automaker

DETROIT, Michigan (July 8, 2014)  – Three people were killed and eight injured in seven separate car accidents tied to defects that have prompted the latest safety recall by General Motors for nearly 8 million vehicles for a total of more than 28 million vehicles recalled by the company this year, according to a press release by General Motors.

“Anyone who believes they were injured due to a GM car defect may have grounds for a claim,” said California Attorney James Johnson, who heads up Johnson Attorneys Group. “Also, car owners whose vehicles repeatedly require repairs, are unfixable or are considered threat to their safety, may be deemed a lemon under California Lemon Laws.”

The fatal car accidents reportedly involved older-model, full-size sedans under recall for inadvertent ignition key rotation, however, GM points out that there is “no conclusive evidence that the defect condition caused those crashes.”

Specifically, this recent GM recall comprises seven vehicles including the Chevrolet Malibu (1197 through 2005); Pontiac Grand Prix (2004 through 2008); and the Cadillac CTS (2003 to 2014).

Additionally, GM announced this four more recalls affecting roughly 200,000 vehicles due to an electrical short in the driver’s side door that hinders power locks and the operation of windows.

GM says it’s taking an aggressive stand to address safety defects quickly. Drivers are asked to remove all items from their key ring and wear seat belts until the vehicle has been repaired under this recall.

“Our customers deserve more than we delivered in these vehicles. That has hardened my resolve to set a new industry standard for vehicle safety, quality and excellence,” said GM CEO Mary Barra.
