2016 and 2017 Ford Focus RS Head Gasket Engine Problems and Complaints

DEARBORNE, Michigan (Feb. 9, 2018) — Owners of the Ford Focus RS can finally get their vehicles repaired at the dealership at no charge.

Many owners of the popular compact sports car have been grappling with catastrophic engine failure for the past year, but in January the automaker finally addressed the issue with an official bulletin to repair or replace faulty head gaskets in the vehicle’s 2.3-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost engines.

Many of vehicles affected by this problem had less than 10,000 miles on the odometer when they discovered extensive damage allegedly caused when a faulty seal between the engine block and the head, permitted coolant to leak into the engine combustion chamber.

Owners who paid $35,000 for the 350 horsepower, all-wheel drive Ford Focus RS have been complaining on automotive forums for months about blown head gaskets and engine failure on their relatively new vehicles. This is not something a car buyer would anticipate on a vehicle with just a few thousand miles on it. Additionally, this problem affects Ford Focus RS vehicles whether they are completely stock or heavily modified.

The tell-tale signs of the failed head gasket such as white smoke coming from exhaust pipes, loss of cabin heat, engine misfires and low levels of engine coolant.

Some have hypothesized that the Ford Focus RS may have been equipped with the wrong gasket in the first place, comparing it to identical ones used by the Ford Mustang’s 2.3-liter engine.  This would be problematic as the cooling passengers in these two vehicles are different.
