Ford recalls 550,000 vehicles that may unexpectedly roll away

Ford recalls 550,000 vehicles that may unexpectedly roll awayDETROIT, Michigan — Ford  has announced it will recall about 550,000 cars and SUVs in North America due to a defect that could cause certain vehicles to unexpectedly roll away.

The vehicles affected are the 2013-2016 Ford Fusion sedan and the 2013-2014 Ford Escape SUV.

The automaker says a bushing that is connected to the gearshift cable in these vehicles may fall off and if that happens a driver shifting into park could end up in another gear. The roll-away vehicles could cause a collision that results in an injury or worse.  Ford recommends that owners of these vehicles use their parking brakes at all times until they can get their vehicle fixed.

There are no known collision or injuries reported to Ford at this time.

Owners should be notified by July 30th and will need to bring their vehicle to a dealership to have the bushing on the shifter replaced at no cost.
